This Goddam Internet Thing

I’ve been writing at Substack, attracted to the newsletter aspect, for a year now, and have just discovered why the things I write there are not findable on Google: because my stuff is free.

I strongly wish there was a way to exist easily on the Internet, and really dislike the gaming and bullshit of the Facebooks and Squarespaces and Substacks. (Wordpress never let me down, really - but in the end it did litter ads all over my stuff.) I just want to write and share - not be subsumed into someone’s profit-driven platform needs. I miss Internet 1.0.

Anyway - I’m trying experiments, like double-posting on Substack and Medium, and, now, also posting here. So this space should liven up, and feature pieces from Music of the 80s, and A Different Fish, and random other stuff. We’ll see how it goes. Maybe Internet 3 (or Facebook 2) will destroy the whole thing and we can start over. I’m down for that.

Pretty Much Everything, 2010-2020

At the beginning of 2010, I decided I needed to stop planning and just finish more pages, and I did. The document below contains, I think, everything I did towards that over the decade that followed. I made it mostly so I could print off one and hold it in my hands - 400 plus pages. Just in case any maniac people out there want to read it, it’s also for sale as a PDF. For ten bucks or proof that you did something cool with ten bucks, I’ll share the 400 MB file with you. Write me.

If you love comics about me, you’ll love this collection! No refunds. Sold as a novelty entertainment only. Results not guaranteed. Not recommended by doctors. Free with every purchase. Use as directed. Use with parental supervision. Do not use around children. Results guaranteed.

I Say, Hang Him!

The title of the post is a reference to a Robbie Fulks song, and I knew you wouldn’t get it, so I’m telling you.

ANYWAY:

I posted the artwork below back in December on Instagram. I wondered about the morality of it. It’s a bad thing to wish death on people, I hear. The silence was kind of loud - way less than any recent posts. And I wanted this to spread - so I took one of instagram’s endless invitations to advertise and spread my evil ideas, but they rejected me! I offended their standards. I find this funny and oddly enjoyable. I believe in the work, and I get that the Christmas motif really complicates it. The suggestion that politicians need to do their jobs and the threat of violence - I think I’m just early. It doesn’t take a weatherman to know which way the wind blows. And I’m an amateur weatherman.

Anyway - here it is.

I redid it later without the perverse Xmas motif.
